Oscar Nominated Live Action Shorts at The Majestic

The Academy Awards are upon us! To celebrate, Crested Butte Film Festival brings two programs of Oscar-Nominated Short Films to the Majestic Theatre, February 17 & 18, leading up to the live telecast of The Oscars on Sunday night, March 10.

As always, these Oscar-Nominated short films provide an entertaining and enlightening view into our world through the lens of Live Action and Documentary filmmaking. The ten nominated films (five in each category) represent the very best short films produced in the last year and offer us a wonderful opportunity to be uplifted (and challenged) by films we might otherwise not see, and the people, events, and stories they tell.

Live Action films kick off on February 17th at 6:30 . “Live Action” is the industry term for scripted and acted films (think Tom Cruise and Meryl Streep.) This year’s 133 minute program offers dramatic, exciting, and moving films (all subtitled) from around the world. Wes Anderson’s THE WONDERFUL STORY OF HENRY SUGAR leads the program off. Following are INVINCIBLE (Canada) KNIGHT OF FORTUNE (Denmark) RED, WHITE AND BLUE (USA) and THE AFTER (U.K.) This promises to be an delightful evening of film from some of the world’s most up-and-coming filmmakers.

The next night, February 18, at 6:30, it’s CBFF’s perennial audience favorite: Oscar-Nominated Documentary Short Films. Films included in the program and vying for the Oscar are: ISLAND IN BETWEEN (Taiwan) NAI NAI & WAI PO (USA) THE ABC’S OF BOOK BANNING (USA) THE BARBER OF LITTLE ROCK (USA) and THE LAST REPAIR SHOP (USA.) The running time for this program is 138 minutes.
