Forest Woodward’s “What Roots May Clutch” Opening Reception

Join us for Forest Woodward’s opening reception on Monday, May 15, 5 – 7 pm.

Plus catch a second viewing of the show at the artist reception in conjunction with the Mountain Words Festival on May 27, 5 – 7 pm.

Artist bio:

“Forest Woodward (b.1986) holds/grasps/grips and occasionally clutches an MFA in photography from the University of Hartford (’22) as well as a BA with honors (UNC-CH ’09) + a various few degrees (of separation) from desires usually associated with typing in the third person.

Occasionally one must wonder; what roots the mountain grows, what shape borrows the wind, who wakes the sleeping hen?

Fortunately there is more to be seen than to be said.”

Show Statement:

“What Roots May Clutch, is a body of work set against the backdrop of climate change in the American West and our cultural reckoning with the limitations of anthropocentric ideological frameworks. With many of the images made during the centennial of TS Eliot’s The Waste Land, the imagery is rooted in a sensitivity to the ways in which the shaping of physical landscapes might reveal insights into the cultural and spiritual landscapes we inhabit. From the drought stricken reservoirs of the Colorado river, to the abandoned mines of Butte, and the wildfire scars of the West, the work traverses a tattered landscape, loosely known as “edgelands”; places where the tides of human encroachment and retreat meet waves of their own making. Physical landscapes of climate breakdown and ecological collapse pressed up against psycho-spiritual landscapes of mystery, wonder and fear.”
