June 12
Watercolor Landscapes

This class begins in the Kinder Padon Gallery as we glean inspiration from the Mountain Art Summit featured artists, whose portfolios focus on environmental advocacy. After observing and discussing the landscapes, class heads up to the studio to create our own artworks. Students are guided step by step on creating their own stunning art piece while learning various techniques to improve overall confidence while using watercolor paint.

June 19
Charcoal Enlargements

The grid enlargement technique has been around since the Renaissance Period and is used by artists to increase the scale of a project while maintaining accuracy. In this session, artists work from a photo of their choosing and are guided through the process of using a grid to enlarge a photograph into a drawing. We cover how to use charcoal to add a range of value variation to create realism within the piece. Participants leave with an accurate drawing full of contrast and emphasis!

June 26
Linoleum Prints

Using the work of local artist John Fellows as inspiration, students learn about the process of designing a print and carving a linoleum block using a variety of tools. Artists leave class with a carved block and several pulled prints of their original design on a variety of paper types.

July 10
Plaster Hand Project

Artists are guided through the process of using plaster to create a mold of their hand. While the mold is drying, students create sketches of their final designs for the plaster. Participants are encouraged to bring decorative items to adorn their work. Examples: legos, puzzle pieces, fake flowers, buttons, etc.

July 17
Inktastic!

In this illustration focused class, participants use ink to create art pieces focusing on variations of lines and patterns. Students learn about different ways to use ink as a medium, and time is spent becoming more comfortable drawing freehand with a pen or marker!
