  1. I just spent a few weeks in Crested Butte and demoed around a dozen skis before deciding to buy some Romps. The guys there are super friendly and let me try out a bunch of different options. I also skied Volkl Mantras (not sure what the fuss is about), a few different size Nordica Enforcers (incredibly fun to carve), Blizzards, and a couple others I can’t recall right now. I’ve been skiing some 2017 Liberty Origin 96’s in 182 for the past several years and demo a few every year.

    Here are my takes:

Zorro 100 – this was the most well rounded ski I used my entire time. They like to carve and are super playful. I could throw them around easily in the trees and on bumps.

Shepherd 106 – not for me but I can see what people like about them. A ton of rocker and super easy to do quick motions in trees and bumps. Probably great in powder but we didn’t get much.

Oso 105 – ended up buying these and sized up 188. These things are like maneuverable tanks. I can plow through anything the mountain throws at me but they’re still fun to pop off every little opportunity to get a bit of air I see. I could not hit a chattery top speed on these no matter how hard I tried and they are a ton of fun to do big GS turns with. I was torn between these and the Zorro but ended up going with these because they’re more different than my Liberty’s. If I had to choose a single ski, though, it would be these.

My takeaway was that these guys are great and make a solid product as well. Go check them out if you have the chance.

  2. Caleb and crew put the exact skis that I wanted and made sure to get the order right! I recommend them to all my friends!

  3. Just got my new Romp skis. This is my 2nd pair and I love them. Perfect all mountain skis and great in deep Utah powder!

  4. ROMP skis rock. Bought my first pair (100 under foot) at the beginning of the 2020-2021 season. I ski Crested Butte which is famous for the steeps but there are plenty of bumps, groomers and icy spots to navigate as well. I immediately noticed the amazing grip on ice which was far better than my previous skis (K2). They also plow right thru chop and crud, not to mention powder. Get you some!

  5. I love my Romp Skis. I’m 61 and these have taken 20 years off my skiing. The team at Romp are great to work with. Have lots of demos and frankly it feels good keeping my money in the local community.

  6. I’ve been skiing since i was 8, I’m now 53. I demo’d a pair of Romp ski’s, carbon pintails, on a powdery perfect day at Monarch. I bought a pair that day. Light and responsive. I was again punishing my 20 year old son on the slopes. Enough said!

  7. Romp built me a set of custom 1st Special Service Forces’ skis several years ago. They’re the “go-to” set in my quiver. Love the feel and the distinctive pattern. These guys make good sticks.

  8. I had heard how great Romp skis are, but never imagined they could perform this well. They are so light and responsive. I followed Caleb’s advice and purchased the “all mountain” skis that he uses. There is nothing that they can’t handle.

  9. Hands down the best all mountain skis on the market. Friends of ours introduced us to Romp as they have a house in CB. Now not only our entire family skis on them, but many of our friends ski them as well. They all say you cannot beat them for an all mountain ski that are tough as nails.

  10. Best custom made skis ever! tailor made to whatever your needs are and they are incredibly durable. Nevermind scratches, they are Crested Butte ready!

  11. I am one lucky guy to own a pair of Romp Skis! They are the best – made in a great town by great people! They work with you to customize the perfect pair of skis — specific to your skier type. Love them!

  12. Where’s the 10 star option? That’s what I’d give Romp if it was an option. Caleb and Romp skis have built 4 pairs of skis for me over the last 8 years, and a pair for my son, all the best performing skis we’ve ever owned.

Bought my first pair in 2013 of 100s, liked them so much I ordered a pair of 106s with the Countervail option and got my son a pair of 106s too. Then last year I replaced the original 100s which had over 120 days on them with a new pair of 100s with Countervail. Then in 2021, I ordered a replacement pair for my 106s, which had over 130 days on them.

Put in a little effort and these skis give back big time. Much less, the guys at Romp are great to deal with. I can’t recommend their skis highly enough.

Over the years I’ve demoed other brands, but each time I put my Romps back on I’m amazed at their responsiveness and durability. And while the Countervail option is pricey, it’s worth every penny. Not to mention the Romp skis last longer than any name brand skis I had in the past.

You might pay a few bucks more for your custom Romps, but given they’ll still be skiing almost like new at 100 days, long after most skis would have turned to noodles, they are the best bargain out there. And yes the Countervail option is worth every penny

  13. Just started skiing on my new ROMPS last week. They are custom made with a very cool design AND they ski like a dream. Carve great, perfect edges, and a good all around ski for both hard packed and reasonable powder depth. I love them!!!

  14. My wife Sarah, my two boys and I have been on Romps since they opened the company. Caleb and Morgan have always been easy to deal with and Romps customer service is second to none. I own one all mountain pair and one pair of their ultra light backcountry skis. Both pairs of my Romps are FANTASTIC and I recommend everyone owning some of these truly unique boards. . Skiing is more fun on ROMPS.

  15. If you’re in the market for new skis, a custom pair of Romp skis should be on your short list! The customer experience was outstanding. It started off with an email to get the conversation started, followed up by a phone call which lasted nearly 45 min. The purpose of the call was to establish my skiing experience, perceived ability level what I was looking for in a ski. My goal was the elusive ‘one ski quiver’. He did a great job of explaining the nuances between models and managing realistic expectations for what I was looking to do. It was awesome to have that level of care taken, considering my annoyingly impossible ask. In the end, I opted for a pair of Romp 100’s in the ‘That 70’s Ski’ colorway. I’ve skied these on everything from the East Coast, in its typical ‘ice coast’ conditions, to classic PNW blue bird groomer days to the steep and deep extreme terrain of Crested Butte, CO. where these skis are designed and hand built. They have exceeded my expectations on all fronts and the Romp 100’s are easily the most incredible skis I’ve ever ridden. If you’re concerned about the sticker shock of custom skis, you’ll be as surprised as I was to find out that the price was very comparable to ‘off the shelf’ production skis. I doubt I’ll ever own a different brand of ski. I’ll likely just expand my quiver of Romps in the seasons to come. 10/10 will buy another pair.

  16. The Romp Team is awesome. My husband and I both got skis this year and both Caleb and Charlie were so helpful. They helped us figure out the right fit for us, and we got off-the-rack skis and they were able to fit the bindings to our boots within a day. The skis are amazing and we’re so happy.

  17. I love my Romp Pin Tail 99’s! I wanted a ski setup for 60/40 backcountry/resort skiing, and these skis are it. The build quality is superb, and the overall experience ordering a custom pair of skis was very positive. I have no regrets, and can’t wait to put them to use over the years to come.

  18. As an IFMGA guide The Romp Pintails are hands down the best skis I’ve had the pleasure of riding. Skis are my security and livelihood. I wanted a light carbon ski that would be stable at speed, solid in serious terrain, edge well on ice, float in powder and be a joy to break trail for days on end. Caleb & Morgan and the carbon elves in the shop over delivered; the carbon black magic has to be skied to be understood. The Romp Pintails perform dramatically better than similar offerings from the big name companies.

I work with the with the Special forces Mountain Guide Team and they tried my ROMP Pintails on a training course and outfitted their entire unit with the Pintail 110mm. It exceeds their needs for a bombproof ski that turns effortlessly in all snow conditions, even with a heavy pack. They can buy any ski on the market and they chose the ROMP Pintail 110.

My guests’ agree as well, ages 25-75yrs. They make powder effortless, breakable crust ridable and save ACL’s. I find it a bit crazy to buy skis off the rack with “one flex for everyone”. Romp can customize the flex to your weight (with pack), skiing style and needs.

The Pintail 99’s are my “1 ski to rule them all” choice. Going on the Haute Route? This is the ski. The pintail smears effortlessly through breakable crust and lifts the tip to the surface in powder. 99mm underfoot is the ideal width for hardpack skin tracks (for grip & low stress on knees) while still floating in the deep days.

As a former rando national champion who’s not as fit as I used to be, I love the light carbon construction for breaking trail day after day on consecutive hut trips. ROMP Pintail 110 for powder & the Romp Pintail 99 for hard/soft snow quiver of 1. Life’s too short for bad skis and their are few things in life that give as much joy as backcountry skiing. You deserve it.

  19. First, I’m a tourist skier from Georgia. In CB,I ski everything lift served including tower11 type stuff but it’s not pretty. That said, I recently skied some romp 100s, 183cm. LOVED THEM! Great for groomers, comfortable at speed, good grip, minimal chatter in turns. Turns easy to initiate and easy release to next turn.
In the trees they are wide enough to keep me afloat and easy to turn helping me survive the occasional off piste run. Could be a little softer for bumps but then they would be less stable in turns.
Overall a great all mountain, easy to ski ski.

  20. Spent all season (~45 days) on a pair of Romp skis. This is a custom ski built for the military so not a custom ski built for me or my style. Despite the broad range of people this ski was built for, it does extremely well. We use it front side and backside and in all conditions with great success. Beginners and great skiers put this ski through its paces and the construction and design hold up very well through the multiple seasons of abuse. I will be buying a personal pair of Romp Pintails due to my experience on the skis and the great customer service I have had when contacting with questions. Go Romp!

  21. Romp absolutely knocked it out of the park with my custom pair of skis! I got to choose some epic graphics and they built me the perfect ski for my height, weight, and skiing ability. They are by far the best performing and most fun skis I’ve ever been on. Perfect for shredding Crested Butte in any conditions.

  22. ROMP SKIS are incredible! I have been a ski instructor for a long time and I am very picky about my skis. I previously had a relationship with Atomic and before that Head and before that Elan where I would go thru 1 to 2 pair of skis per year. ROMP skis are every bit as good as any of the skis I was getting from these companies. ROMP understands that the initial finish is extremely important and they are spending the extra time to make sure that they ski well out of the package. (most skis from bigger companies require a “new ski tune”) Last year I chose the 100 and customized it with a flatter tail and this year these skis are still performing like new. The 100’s are truly an all mtn ski and kick but on piste and off piste as well as the groomers. Do yourself a favor and get yourself a pair.

  23. After renting skis for years, I bought my first two pairs at Romp. The first pair, downhill skis, has enabled me to ski better and with more confidence. The second pair, customized backcountry skis, is very light, making ascents much less taxing. Caleb is full of good, reliable advice. I also like the unpretentious, family-style shop. Highly recommended!

  24. ROMP skis are incredible. The quality and durability is unmatched. I ski on the 115s in a 180 cm length with a medium flex, no camber, and rocker in both the tip and tail. Despite the wide waist, I find these skis to be incredibly versatile.

I would recommend ROMP to any skier, but especially women because of ROMP’s customized construction, with high quality materials, results in a top-notch product regardless of the length.

Thank you to the crew at ROMP! You guys made creating a dream ski much easier than I imagined.

  25. I had Romp build me the ultimate powder ski with a healthy dose of stability, float and energy. Additionally wanted the skis to be able to carve up the front side and hold on hardpack. As impossible as all this may seem, they delivered. I can ski the woods and bowls, pop out onto a groomed trail, including frozen hardpack without skipping a beat – fast wide open terrain, large arcs and edge of the trail sharp fall-line tight turns. Skiing THE 120 with Countervail added.

  26. I have 3 pairs of Romp skis- pintails mounted tele, an AT setup (carbon sure is light!) and some 106’s mounted alpine for everyday on the mountain. I love them all. I hit rocks with abandon and have never done more than a small core shot. Extremely well built, Morgan and Caleb are knowledgeable and easy to work with and stand behind their skis. Both my kids are on Romps too- no other production ski can bring flex to the little sizes like these do. Switching to Romp really helped their skiing.
