The Adaptive Sports Center is a full-fledged therapeutic recreation program that operates year-round, with adaptive activities ranging from mountain biking and skiing to ice climbing and kayaking.

On average, over 6,000 activities are provided annually to more than 1,200 individuals who come to Crested Butte from all over the U.S. and overseas each year.

Over time, ASC’s participant base has expanded to include individuals with an extremely broad range of physical, emotional and cognitive differences. On any given day, a child with a rare mitochondrial condition might sit side-by-side on a fit-up bench with a war veteran battling posttraumatic stress and share a laugh.

The ASC works with anyone with any type of disability who exhibits a desire to participate in activities, regardless of their capacity to pay. Programs for the Gunnison Valley clientele remain as popular as they were 30 years ago, and some of the ASC’s first participants from Six Points Evaluation and Training (a Gunnison-based nonprofit that serves adults with developmental disabilities) receive instruction to this day. Additionally, the ASC partners with numerous renowned hospitals, veteran groups, schools and foundations from across the country.

The experience at ASC is amazing! It is truly enlightening to see so many people willing and able to help others have fun and enjoy the outdoors! The staff-seasonal and year-round are very considerate and fun-loving. Great time no matter the activity or the season these guys know how to make it accessible and fun!

We went this past Jan 2021 and had an absolute awesome time. Sorry to just getting around to review. My son was able to ski for the first time and the crew went at his speed. Kind of wish it was my speed because I was having to keep up with all the excitement. ASC is an awesome service! They’re the best! Thank you for all the memories we had. Andrew still talks about his time there this past ski season.

The first time downhill adaptive mtb was exhilarating and breath taking !! The staff was beyond what anyone could ask for or expect. I am looking forward to a return trip and more amazing adventures out that way.

Excellent place for adaptive sports. We absolutely love that we can do things together as a family. Excellent recreational therapists on staff and they are friendly and welcoming to boot.
