Wild Minds Young Writers Camp

Set your wild mind free in this fun and supportive week-long creative writing workshop!

Learn how to write inspired and unique poetry, fiction, drama, and creative non-fiction while exploring the wild nooks and crannies of Crested Butte.

This annual summer workshop is designed for teens to take their writing to a new level of skill, confidence, self-expression, and joy.

Taught by award-winning teacher and writer Shelley Read, this is an opportunity not to be missed! Sign up for the whole week, a few days, or just one day. Space limited. Workshops will be held outdoors.

Shelley Read’s debut novel, Go As A River, is forthcoming from publisher Spiegel & Grau.

She recently retired as a Senior Lecturer at Western Colorado University, where she taught writing, literature, environmental studies, and Honors for nearly three decades.

Shelley is a regular contributor to Crested Butte Magazine and Gunnison Valley Journal. Her writing has also appeared in The Denver Post, The Breeder, Paradise Review, Mountain Kids Magazine, Foothills Literary Journal, and Denver Clarion.

Shelley holds an MA from Temple University’s Graduate Creative Writing Program. She also completed a double major BA in English and journalism at the University of Denver, a graduate fellowship in aesthetics at Temple University Rome, and PhD coursework and comprehensive exams in literary studies and philosophy as a Dean’s Fellow at the University of Denver.

Shelley is a board member and instructor for Vita Institute for the Arts and hosts the Wild Minds youth creative writing program at The Center. A mom, mountain goat, traveler, and third-generation Colorado native, Shelley lives and writes in Crested Butte.
