From the Archives: Stories from Camp Hale Lecture
Join Colorado historian Duane Vadenbusche for an engaging lecture and slideshow about the history of Camp Hale.
Camp Hale was a high-altitude U.S. Army training facility built in 1942 in central Colorado for the elite 10th Mountain Division.
Located between Red Cliff and Leadville, soldiers trained there in alpine and Nordic skiing, mountaineering, and cold-weather survival.
Decommissioned in 1945, the site was designated Camp Hale–Continental Divide National Monument in 2022, preserving its military legacy while supporting continued recreation and public access.
