Crested Butte offers a diverse skiing experience across 1,547 skiable acres. The resort features 165 trails, categorized as 14% beginner, 24% intermediate, 25% advanced, and 37% expert terrain.

The mountain’s elevation ranges from a base of 9,375 feet to a summit of 12,162 feet, providing a vertical drop of approximately 2,775 feet.

Skiers and snowboarders can access the terrain via 15 lifts (165 trails), including high-speed quads, triple chairs, and surface lifts.

Crested Butte is renowned for its challenging terrain, particularly the 561 acres designated for expert skiers.

The resort is considered one of the birthplaces of inbounds extreme skiing, offering steep chutes, tree glades, and bowls that attract advanced skiers seeking adventure.

For those new to skiing or looking to improve their skills, the resort provides a variety of beginner and intermediate trails, as well as ski and snowboard lessons tailored to different ability levels.

Best ski mountain in Colorado IMO. Getting ready for a Natural Selection competition in Feb this year. Everything is made better by the difficulty to get there.

Absolutely love skiing here spent a couple of days with my friends on the slopes. I think that they should reevaluate their green slopes and change them to blacks. It seemed to be a lot more difficult than what I remember green slopes being when I was about seven years old

Great skiing. Got EPIC passes for after Christmas for a couple days. Stayed in Almont. The mountain was well staffed. Staff was friendly. Ski lessons were good. Lift lines moved along. Has slopes for every skill. Enjoyed the wide open runs. Some were more narrow than our family preferred (Gunsight). Ate at the Umbrella Bar (brauts) and the line crawled. It is probably hard to keep buns moist at altitude, but staff kept the water jug full and the bathrooms were fine. Enjoyed the Painter Boy runs numerous times.

BEAUTIFUL mountain that wasn’t too busy on 12/26! Very friendly and welcoming staff. Plenty of greens and blues open, with a few blacks groomed as well. Enjoyed the umbrella restaurant on the mountain too!

Stayed at St Moritz apartments which was ski in ski out. Ski school for kids was very convenient and had really good teachers. 4 ski days and never got bored. The lines were short. Max of 5 minutes. Often just skied up to the lift. I will definitely return.

Came here to listen to a free concert in their summer concert series. What a total blast. Everyone dancing and having fun. Good band, good sound system, amazing mountain view as the backdrop.

Love the mountain, the people and the town! Service is a little lacking due to the worker shortage. Since Vail purchased the resort, you can tell things are in transition and a lot of the original appeal of CB is lacking. We stayed at the Grand Lodge for Spring skiing and it’s always a tried and true place that’s perfectly located for skiing, shopping and transportation at Mt. Crested Butte.

Difficult mountain but enough green/blue terrain on the front side if that’s not your thing. The in bounds glades and steep bowls are amazing. Be careful though, a lot of the terrain on the backside can require a hike back up if you aren’t paying attention to where you’re heading.

Our family loves this ski resort! We ski the other vail resorts often and love them but only make it out to Crested Butte once a year if we are lucky. There is just something about the beauty of this place. There are less people, better snow, gorgeous views all around and an overall much more relaxed feel from the crowd than any other vail resort we have visited!

First off, we haven’t been skiing in twenty years my wife and I and first time for our 17yr old son. Enough can not be said of the town of Crested Butte or the Mountain. What I would like to comment on is the ski staff. We arrived late after a long drive. What does that mean. The first thought is to get your rentals(boots, poles, helmet and skis) before the Resort rental place closes so we can get straight out on the mountain in the morning. Avoid the line the next day. The call to the rental office was cordial and polite from the young guy who runs the shop. It was last minute but he was welcoming. We made it over and there was a significant line for the equipment. What I can say after a working full day, the staff was polite, friendly and professional as can be. They were really working. It was customer service beyond. Let’s be honest, after a long trip to go skiing no one is on their best behavior. This staff worked like a machine. It was a impressive. The young guy who ran the shop led by example. So professional and pleasant. Everyone of the staff at the rental shop were as fantastic. Boots, then helmet, then skis, fitting and poles. We had private lessons over the next two days and the instructor was friendly and so helpful. Vail Resorts you have great people working for you. I hope you know that. If you are a patron, I understand it’s common to tip staff who help you with equipment or instruction. Think about it. Just sayin.

This is a great ski resort. I didnt stay at their properties but this is one if the best options for snow in the corridor. Runs were well groomed, a bit less busy than mountains further east, plenty of dining options, and good top of mountain libation options. This place is worth a visit

Crested Butte mountain as some very good difficult runs. The snow was great while we were there and some of the inbound double black runs were amazing and full of snow. I don’t know that I would recommend it for beginners but for expert skiers this is an amazing place.

Went to CB for the first time since 1986. Back then you had to hike to get to the good stuff. CB still has some of the best steep and challenging terrain in Colo, except now it is lift-served by two T-bars. There was fresh snow two of the three days we skied and all the terrain we were capable of skiing up in the T-bar area was fantastic. It doesn’t seem like there is an abundance of blue groomers at CB, but there are a lot of excellent steep skiable runs for someone who is an advanced skier without being a complete “expert,” but there is plenty of terrain for those expert people, too. Lift lines were moved quickly and were mostly short. The base area is not huge, but it has some good restaurants and bars and the town nearby (5 min drive or busride) has everything you need. I don’t think Vail has ruined Crested Butte.

Best mountain in Colorado. Has everything from smooth rolling green/blues to the steepest EX terrain you can find. Epic scenery and a more classic feel than the closer front range mountains.

Great mountain looks like it is straight out of a Tolkien book. Very steep terrain opens up later in the season when the snowfall permits. Perfect for all skill levels. Free shuttle busses run regularly to take you wherever you want to go. In the summertime there’s unbelievable biking, hiking, river rafting, fishing and many other activities. Crested Butte, wildflower capital of Colorado.

I had a wonderful trip in late January/early February. I went during the week, it was very uncrowded, no lift lines. Employees were friendly. Snow was great, well groomed runs. They have two high speed quad chairs at the base which get you to the top of the mountain quickly.
I have read all sorts of bad press about Vail Resorts ownership and mismanagement. I witnessed no problems, I think the locals naturally are adverse to big conglomerates buying their resort. The town of Crested Butte down below is a short and easy drive with lots of neat and funky bars and restaurants and shops. If you want to escape the crowds and have more laid back atmosphere than Vail or Aspen, Crested Butte is the way to go ! I stayed at the Grand Lodge and it was a nice property, only a five minute walk to the lifts.

Loved this resort! It is super easy to traverse, and I really liked that the terrain was “grouped” by difficulty. EX terrain is crazy steep and fun!

One of the best places I’ve been snowboarding in the last 25 years this place is amazing and well worth the trip. The people in this community are some of the nicest people I’ve ever encountered. They are so nice!

This mountain has everything from beginner hills to extreme advanced mountain terrain. The chair lift staff are amicable. The base of the mountain has several ski shops and several restaurants. It’s only a couple minute walk from your hotel room to the chair lifts. There are free busses that run every several minutes from the resort to the nearby downtown area that open up your options for food and beverage. One of their ski shops does board and ski maintenance such as wax and sharpening, and were able to get my board done overnight. Great place to visit!

A beautiful and uncrowded ski resort. Lefties were friendly and ski patrol was nice even though I didn’t actually need them. Runs off the high lift are steep and narrow.

Big mountain. Fairly easy to navigate, 2arming huts will not let you in without proof of a vaccine. This was bad for me when I bad frostbite and could not go in. But all in all a great place. And a beautiful mountain I was lucky to grow up on.

Nice small mountain with plenty of runs for all levels and skills.
I even found the the resort food was responsibly priced which is alway helpful..
Definitely a friend resort.

Never disappoints. Friendly family resort with a raft of things to do winter and summer. Family loves it. This year 3′ snow fell during our stay alone. Winter wonderland. Everyone tries hard to please. All local businesses.

Went there after Christmas 2021. Spontaneously booked a trip. They got around 7 feet of snow. I think last time it was like this back in 2016. All green and blue trails were open. Explored the mountain from every corner. In my opinion it was best snowboarding time ever.
Free parking gets packed very fast. So it is better to park in town and hop on the free shuttle. I tried free parking, paid parking ($15/day) and parking in town. In terms of time getting to the hill they all relatively the same.
The mountain itself is beautiful. Lots of different terrain. I rode snowboard for 4 days and we always found something new every day. It was a bit crowded on weekend. But overall pleasant experience. Thank you Crested Butte. See you next time!

Love Crested Butte, like Telluride the area is beautiful. I kind of feel like Crested Butte is an underrated ski area as it’s mostly known for it’s extreme skiing. Surprisingly enough Crested Butte has tons of beginner and intermediate terrain as well. The base area is a little sleepy but the actual town which is about 5 minutes away more than makes up for it with tons of quaint shopping and restaurants. I couldn’t recommend a visit to Crested Butte highly enough!
