Gunnison Cattlemen’s Day Rodeo
The 2026 Gunnison Cattlemen’s Day Rodeo is one of Colorado’s premier Western celebrations and one of the oldest rodeos in the United States.
Often called the “Granddaddy of Colorado Rodeos,” the event traces its roots back to 1900, making the 2026 celebration its 126th year. It is recognized as Colorado’s longest continuously running rodeo and the fourth-longest running rodeo in the nation.
Held at the Gunnison County Fairgrounds from July 9–11, 2026, the three-day PRCA-sanctioned rodeo attracts top professional cowboys and cowgirls from across the country.
Fans can expect thrilling events including bull riding, saddle bronc riding, bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping, tie-down roping, barrel racing, and bull riding, along with exciting entertainment, rodeo clowns, and nationally recognized announcers.
Beyond the arena, Cattlemen’s Day is a celebration of Gunnison’s ranching heritage. The festival includes a lively Main Street parade, 4-H and FFA livestock shows, horse shows, a carnival, cowboy poetry and music, vendor booths, family activities, and community gatherings that showcase the traditions of the Gunnison Valley.
Each evening of the rodeo has its own theme:
Thursday, July 9: Golden Circle of Champions Night, supporting children battling pediatric cancer.
Friday, July 10: Patriot Night, celebrating America with red, white, and blue spirit.
Saturday, July 11: Ranchland Conservation Legacy Night, honoring the ranching families and landscapes that define the Gunnison Valley.
