The 21st Annual Backcountry Film Festival returns to Gunnison for another inspiring night of winter storytelling at the University Center (UC) Theater on Western Colorado University’s campus.

This long‑running film tour, presented by the Winter Wildlands Alliance, showcases a curated selection of short documentaries and adventure films that celebrate the power, spirit, and beauty of human‑powered winter exploration, from deep powder days to remote mountain journeys and the communities that make it all possible.

The festival isn’t just about breathtaking footage — it’s a shared experience that brings local outdoor enthusiasts, students, and community members together to enjoy powerful stories of skiing, snowboarding, conservation, and backcountry culture while highlighting the importance of protecting wild winter landscapes.

Screenings like this one in Gunnison also help support grassroots winter recreation and environmental stewardship efforts as the festival tours through Colorado and beyond during the 2025–26 season.
