Ice skating with the family offers up just another option for winter vacation fun. Here are some of the resources for ice skating in the Gunnison Valley from northh to south.

Big Mine Ice Arena, Crested Butte

Ice Skating Rink

The Big Mine Ice Arena located in the heart of the Town of Crested Butte is a natural, non-refrigerated ice arena. Thru the winter months (Dec to March) the rink is filled with recreational skaters, hockey teams and players weekday afternoons and evenings. Weekends likewise are popular for leisure skating and youth hockey games.

Ice skates rentals are available at the Crested Butte Nordic Center next door, 970-349-1707. CB Nordic runs the arena warming house and rents ice skates for use on the public rink.

Crested Butte South Ice Skating Rinks

The Crested Butte South community operates 2 skating rinks; one full NHL size hockey rink along with an ice skating pond. The arenas host open skate, open hockey, hockey games and more and are open 9 am to 10 pm daily. See schedule.

Almont Resort Ice Skating Rink

The Almont Ice Rink operated by The Almont Resort is free and open to the public all day, every day & night (as long as the lights are on). During the staffed hours of 9am – 5pm we encourage people to come inside for pastries, hot chocolate, and coffee by our cozy fireplace.

Come and enjoy the Gunnison Valley’s premier winter sports venue. Amenities include an indoor ice facility, outdoor ice rink, a frozen pond dedicated to public skating and miles of Nordic trails. It is truly a Winter Wonderland!

Activities available on both the indoor and outdoor ice surfaces include public skating, drop-in hockey, learn to skate classes and youth and adult league hockey. Concessions area includes food and beverages, skate rentals and skate sharpening.

Please check the schedules located on this page for specific activity times and dates. The outdoor pond is free public skating all day, every day.
