Sunni Gunni Costume Float & River Celebration
The Sunni Gunni Costume Float & River Celebration is a community celebration of the Gunnison River through art, recreation, education and self-expression.
It is also an outreach event for all types of river users to spread awareness of how to “Be a River Hero” through river safety, water conservation, river etiquette and stewardship.
JOIN US! ON SATURDAY, AUGUST 26TH AT THE GUNNISON WHITEWATER PARK.
Come dressed up in your best river hero costume and show off your river style! A face painter will also be present to help people get into the river spirit. River heroes, river rats and celebrators of all kinds can join by boat, foot, bike or car – all are welcome! Anyone in costume will receive some swanky swag in the form of Sunni Gunni Sunnies. There will be vendors, music, a food truck and games!
To join the Community Float:
10am – 11:00am: The float will kick-off at the Shady Island Put-In with CPW river rangers talking about river safety and etiquette. A face-painter will also be on-site to help folks get into the costume spirit!
11:30am-12pm: Participants take-out at the Gunnison Whitewater Park.
Music and vendors will be present, along with games and the food truck “Tacos La Esquina” with tacos available for purchase. Vendors with demo boards and other educational information will be onsite.

Get five poker stamps and enter to win an Orion cooler! How do you get stamps? Vendors and educators at Shady Island and at the Whitewater Park will have stamps. Talk with them about their mission and get a stamp! Get five different stamps and go to the Main Event Tent at the Whitewater Park for a raffle ticket to enter to win the Orion cooler donated by Jackson Kayaks!
